PDF to audiobook

Turn a PDF novel into a full-cast audiobook

Upload your PDF and VoiceYourNovel extracts the text, rebuilds the chapters, finds every speaking character, and casts an identity-matched AI voice for each one — narrator included.

Character detection, voice casting, and chapter rendering are all in the studio. Export chapter MP3s as a ZIP, or one M4B with chapter markers for audiobook apps.

How it works

Three steps from manuscript to full-cast audio

  1. Upload your PDF

Drop the file into your workspace. We run best-effort text extraction on digital PDFs and reconstruct the chapter structure from headings and page flow.

  2. Review the detected cast

Dialogue attribution, aliases, and age cues become character profiles. Check who speaks where, then merge or rename characters before casting.

  3. Cast voices and preview

Accept the suggested voice for each character or audition alternates, then listen to chapter previews right in the browser.

How PDF text extraction works

PDF is a print format, not a text format, so extraction is best-effort: we recover the reading order, strip headers, footers, and page numbers, and rejoin paragraphs that were split across pages. Cleanly exported digital PDFs — the kind produced by Word, Google Docs, or typesetting tools — convert well.

Scanned or image-only PDFs contain pictures of text rather than text itself, so there is nothing to extract. If your PDF is a scan, or the extracted text looks garbled, upload a TXT, EPUB, or DOCX version instead — those formats carry real text and chapter structure and always give the cleanest result.

More than text-to-speech

A single synthetic voice reading a novel flattens every scene. VoiceYourNovel reads your manuscript the way a producer would: it maps dialogue to speakers, builds a profile for each character, and matches a distinct voice to their age, role, and temperament, while a grounded narrator carries the prose between the lines.

You stay the director. Swap any voice, tidy the cast list, and re-render a chapter until it sounds like the book you heard in your head while writing or reading it.

Frequently asked questions

Do scanned PDFs work?
Not directly — scanned pages are images, and we do not OCR them. Export or convert the book to TXT, EPUB, or DOCX and upload that instead.
Will chapters be detected from my PDF?
Usually, yes. Chapter breaks are inferred from headings and layout. If a break lands in the wrong place, you can adjust the chapter boundaries before rendering.
Which upload formats work best?
TXT, EPUB, and DOCX are the most reliable because they carry true text and structure. PDF works well for digitally produced files and is best-effort for everything else.
Can I listen before exporting?
Yes. Upload a text-based PDF, review the detected cast, assign voices, and render chapters. Finished chapters export as audio files in a ZIP.
Is my manuscript kept private?
Your upload is used only to produce your audiobook. It is not shared or used to train voices, and you can delete it from your workspace at any time.
